The skies may have been quite grey but P30 was lit up by the FoN stands at our annual celebration. Once again, the Stand Captains and their teams displayed their creativity, resourcefulness and great humour. Not only was it a wonderful demonstration of our diversity, but the festival raised over €21,500 on the day! Incredible! There was a party atmosphere and a real sense that this was a coming-together of our whole community. We can all be very proud of what was achieved.

Am Weltfahrradtag (3.Juni) vor den Sommerferien startete die 9B mit dem Fahrradprojekt StatusRad, eine von insgesamt fünf bundesweiten Projektwochen, die Jugendlichen das Radfahren als urbanes Verkehrsmittel mit Statuscharakter näherbringen sollen.

Trotz hitzefrei und Vorferienstimmung waren die Schülerinnen und Schüler der 9B mit Spaß, Neugier und ergebnisorientiert bei der Sache.

Vera’s first role at the NMS was in 2012 when her daughter Lilli joined the school. As a parent she was already an active member of the school community, helping out wherever she could. At the beginning of 2015 she became a member of the Madiba Choir and it wasn’t long before she joined the NMS social pedagogue team. Her arrival was like a breath of fresh air and she soon became a highly valued member of staff. When she joined the team she brought a great deal of experience with her.Having studied social pedagogy, Vera later trained as a mediator. She had worked in both the private and public sector and had spent five years in San Diego where she worked with young offenders.

New for 2019/20: Free lunch in Primary

From the school year 2019/20 lunch will be free of charge. We encourage all parents to sign up their children for lunch, so that our students can enjoy a warm meal in school together.

Junge Tüftler are one of our school’s favourite cooperation partners. Also this summer they invite our students to an exciting workshop at the brandnew Berlin Futurium! 

Am 5. September 2019 eröffnet das Futurium im Herzen Berlins nahe dem Hauptbahnhof. Unter einem Dach beherbergt es ein Zukunftsmuseum mit lebendigen Szenarien, ein Zukunftslab zum Ausprobieren, ein Zukunftsforum für den gemeinschaftlichen Dialog und künstlerische Projekte - und Junge Tüftler ist mittenmang dabei! Im Zukunftslab werden wir in regelmäßigen Workshops die Bildungsmaterialien des Futuriums mit den Maker Methoden von Junge Tüftler verbinden.

Good afternoon.  Congratulations to the graduating class, the parents, the school administration, the support staff and the teachers.  Congratulations for this big step forward into each of your lives.  Your heads are full of ideas, accomplishments, dreams, fears, maybe even a sip of champagne. 

Liebe Schulgemeinde,
zum Ende des Schuljahres werde ich –wie schon länger angekündigt- die Nelson-Mandela-Schule verlassen und mich noch einmal einer neuen spannenden Herausforderung stellen. Ich übernehme die Deutsche Schule Kiew, eine noch recht junge deutsche Auslandsschule, die sich im Aufbau befindet und an der noch eine Menge „Pionierarbeit“ anliegt.

Ich gehe mit einem „lachenden und einem weinenden Auge“, denn eine solche Aufbauaufgabe zum Ende meines Berufslebens ist natürlich sehr motivierend und wie gesagt spannend, andererseits hatte ich auch an der Nelson-Mandela-Schule eine sehr abwechslungsreiche und lebendige Zeit, die ich nicht vermissen möchte.

Ich wünsche Ihnen und Ihren Familien und natürlich der Nelson-Mandela-Schule alles Gute für die Zukunft!
