Model United Nations (MUN)
The Model United Nations Club of our school is an assembly of around 30 students from grades 9 to 12 which debates internationally relevant topics, e.g. nuclear non-proliferation, organized crime, human trafficking etc., in the format of the real United Nations. With each member representing a delegate of a different nation, students argue over these topics with regard to their countries' policies.
Everyone from grade 9 onwards is invited, should they be interested in international relations, politics and economics, as well as debating, to come join us.
We also hope to continue a success story. MUN activities at the school started more than six years ago, and having represented the U.S.A. and the Russian Federation at the 1,000 delegate Berlin Model United Nations (BERMUN) and BERMUN 2 conferences respectively, the Nelson Mandela School has managed to attain a reputation as a great and respected MUN School, which we also hope to secure for the future.
We are also planning to relaunch our own MUN conference – the Nelson Mandela School Model United Nations (NMSMUN). Our school has hosted two of these conferences in previous years and we would like to pave the way for the next MUN heads to host a NMSMUN conference again. For this great project we welcome any support from teachers, parents and students.
