The Religion class of year 6 was doing a Minecraft Project on Jerusalem's ancient Jewish Temple. The story of the Jewish Temple, destroyed and (re)built twice, reflects the entire history of ancient Israel and deciphers major concepts of Jewish faith. The remaining Western Wall of the last Temple complex, also known as the Wailing Wall, is the holiest site of today's Judaism and is located close to the Dome of Rocks, one of the holiest sites of Islam.
Julian, Sebastian, Leander, Laszlo and Emery (6c) have done a great job rebuilding Jerusalem's ancient Salomo's Temple on Minecraft in only three hours at the digital learning center HABA Digitalwerkstatt.
HABA was awarded the national prize for innovation ("Augezeichnete Orte im Land der Ideen") for its commitment in digital education. The NMS students were their first class in Berlin realising a regular curriculum lesson with Minecraft. The Education edition of Minecraft is among the most popular digital learning environments. Pedagogical research suggests its effectiveness for building major 21st century skills like cooperation and creative solution findings. The use of Minecraft in a wide range of Primary School subjects is very common in North America. British Columbia's Education Department has granted free access to MinecraftEdu for all of Vicotria's students of public schools.
THANKS to Annemieke Akkermans (IT Chief) for supporting this project!
