IB13 Biology students visited the Julius Wolff Institute to learn about the interdisciplinary field of Biomechanics. They were given a private seminar by award winning Biophysicist Dr Ehsan Soodmand.
Dr Soodmand holds two PhDs, one in Mechanical Engineering and the other in the Biological Sciences. He explained to our students the nature of modern scientific research.
Particularly the value of taking the concepts, methodologies and theories from one discipline and applying them to another. The students visited his cutting-edge laboratories and, with the aid of a technician, had a go at breaking a bone then fixing it while considering the application of his ideas.
Throughout the day our IB13 students impressed all those they met. Their engagement, questioning and enthusiasm for knowledge was a shining example of how wonderful our NMS students are!
